Fieldhouse open house attracts crowds; May 5 ribbon cutting and BBQ coming next!

Hundreds of residents and visitors got their first inside peek at the new Sorauren Park Fieldhouse at the April 19 open house. The gloriously sunny day showed the building to its best advantage, with bright rooms downstairs and upstairs putting smiles on visitors’ faces.

Many people wanted to know what sort of programming will be available at the Fieldhouse, when it will be open, and what it can be used for. Many details are still being worked out with the City—and the building itself is not entirely finished—but permit information and more will be posted on this website.

For its part, the Wabash Building Society hopes residents will come to see the Fieldhouse as an extension of their own home, available for birthday parties, gatherings, classes, meetings and more.

The next event is the “official” opening and ribbon cutting on Monday evening, May 5, from approximately 5:45 to 7:45 p.m. Mayor David Miller, Councillor Gord Perks and many other VIPs will be on hand to cut the ribbon and enjoy a fundraising BBQ presented by the Wabash Building Society and Mitzi’s Cafe.

There is still much work to be done to finish the facility, including final flooring, interior and exterior painting, kitchen installation and landscaping. A planting day has been planned for May 24. If you’d like to volunteer for any of these activities, please use the “Join our list” service on this site. Thanks to the many dozens of people who have already signed up to help! Thanks also to our friends at the City who worked so hard to help getting things ready for the open house.
