ABOUT US

The site is maintained by the Wabash Building Society, a non-profit, volunteer-run, community-based organization dedicated to developing the City-owned property along the southern edge of the park (Wabash Avenue) into new recreational and community facilities. The new Sorauren Park Fieldhouse is just the first phase of bringing the old industrial site back to life for community use.

Sorauren Park and all its related facilities are owned by the City of Toronto. However, many volunteers and community groups are also involved in programming, maintaining and enhancing the park. These groups are always looking for more volunteers, so don’t be shy! Groups include:

Sorauren Park Community Advisory Committee:

This umbrella committee is made up of representatives of all Sorauren Park stakeholder groups, including the City and the groups mentioned here. It typically meets twice a year to compare notes and keep the lines of communication open, but is not an operating committee per se.

Sorauren Park Association:

The volunteers of the SPA work with Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreation to run the children’s soccer and baseball (t-ball) programs from May to September. The SPA maintains its own web site here.

K9 Committee:

Sorauren dog owners run this committee that works with other park users and the City to make sure the park is a safe and healthy place for both people and pets. The committee helps coordinate park clean-ups and other activities. Visit the K9 web site here.

Festival Committee:

The summer Festival traditionally occurs on the third Saturday in July. An informal committee works with the City and other groups to organize the event.

The park is also blessed with other volunteers who look after things such as the natural ice rink (weather permitting), Pumpkin Parade, Christmas Carolling and the Charles G. Williams parkette and playground across the street at the north-east corner of Wabash and Sorauren avenues. From the very beginning, Sorauren Park’s success has been built through the efforts of hundreds of volunteers. Contact any one of these groups or the Wabash Building Society to get involved in your popular city park.

This website is maintained by volunteers of the Wabash Building Society.

Sorauren Park is part of the City of Toronto's Parks, Forestry and Recreation department, and is operated in conjunction with several community groups, including the Wabash Building Society, Sorauren Park (Sports) Association, K9 Committee, Sorauren Park Festival Committee, and Sorauren Park Community Advisory Committee.
